As part of working with the reading strategy of "summarizing text", let's have some fun summarizing our favorite movies! Remember the key questions to ask yourself as you write a summary:
What is this selection about?
What are the main ideas of this selection? What is your evidence?
What is not important to remember in this selection? Why?
A good summary covers the "W's" of a selection, WHO (are the main characters), WHAT (did they do?), WHERE (does the selection primarily take place), WHEN (does the selection take place), and WHY (did the characters do what they did? Think about the theme of the selection).
Guidelines for this first invitation to respond to our blog:
-For this response, "selection" refers to the movie you have selected to summarize
-School appropriate language at all times
-Choose a movie that is also school appropriate (I'm sure Jaws III is a wonderful movie, but...). Use G and PG rated movies as a rule of thumb.
Most of all, have fun! I think it will be fun to see if there are movies we haven't seen before and might want to based on our classmates' summaries!
my movie is percy jackson. first he goes to camp half blood. then he gets a quest.next he goes to the under world and un covers the plot for warld war3 .finally he beats ares in a sward doule and saves the world from world war3
ReplyDeleteWhen Percy finds out that he has to go somewhere, he hops in the car with Grover (his best friend and protector) and his mom. While his mom is driving, Percy finds out that he is going to a camp for special kids like him. When he gets to Camp Half Blood, the minotaur comes. Percy tries to fight him, but the minotaur disappears with Percy’s mom. At Camp Half Blood he finds out that he has to play capture the flag. He won capture the flag for his team. After that he finds out that he has to go to the Underworld where Hades is, with 3 pearls to get his mom back. He goes with Grover and Annabeth.
ReplyDeleteFirst, they go to Medusa, and Percy kills her. He finds the pearl on her ring. Percy and Annabeth find a pond with gold coins where Medusa is. Then they all go to a museum in Tennessee, and they find the pearl on the statue of Athena. Finally, to a casino in Las Vegas, and they find the last pearl there. They are off to the Underworld! There is an old man there with a boat. Grover gives him $70 dollars, and he turns it into flames. Percy gives him the gold coins they found the pond, and they climb aboard the boat. When the reach Hades in the Underworld, he gives them Percy’s mom back. But they only have 3 pearls and 1 pearl transports 1 person. There are 4 people that need to get back, so Grover stays, and the rest go back. Percy and Annabeth stay at Camp Half Blood, and later on Grover comes back, and stays with them for the rest of his life
Summary of cats and dogs

First of all who is Butch?
He’s an agent in a top secret facility preventing cats and terrible and unspeakable misfortune to people worldwide.
Lou;
he’s a puppy who mistakenly gets picked instead of an agent, now must protect his master with little to nothing training, and be an ordinary dog at the same time.
Back to the story;
Theirs a large dog collecting the beagles and replacing them with trained agents Lou hides and ends up getting picked, he meets a dog named Butch and learns about his mission to keep his master safe till he finishes the cure for dog allergies. An evil cat is planning to steal the formula and reverses it to make all humans allergic to dogs. Meanwhile Lou is fighting off three cats sent from the mastermind to kill Lou and get the formula, but Lulu defeats them, so the evil cat kidnaps Lou’s family and will kill them if he doesn’t hand over the formula including all notes. Lou sets off to save his family, when he finds them he unties their bindings and they escape. Unfortunately a fire starts and he gets hurt , Butch carries him out he soon is fine and all are safe.
Ratatouille
ReplyDeleteThis story is about a rat but not an ordinary rat. He has a dream of being a cook but his family doesn’t want him to cook. His father wants him to be a normal rat. The rat’s name is Remy. Remy pretends to be a normal rat until he is separated from his family. He climbs to the top of a building and sees he’s in Paris. He looks around and sees his hero’s restaurant, Gusteau’s. He meets a human named Linguini that doesn’t know how to cook so he decides to help him, because he feels sorry for him.
They figure out that if Remy sits on Linguini’s head and pulls his hair, it can control Linguini’s arms. With a little practice, Linguini is the best cook in Paris. The chef at Gusteau’s doesn’t like Linguini because he thinks he’s a fake, but he can’t prove it. The Chef partners Linguini up with a cook named Collette. They have their differences but become good partners.
Anton Ego is a food critic that wrote a bad review of the restaurant. When he hears that Gusteau’s is popular again, he’s surprised and angry because he thought he got rid of the restaurant. So he tells Linguini he will pay a visit to the restaurant. Linguini likes Collette and starts listening to her more than Remy. Remy gets angry because he’s the only reason Linguini is famous. Remy leaves, and Linguini can’t do it on his own. He tells the other chefs in the restaurant about Remy. They look at him strange then all of them quite. Remy comes back and makes an excellent dish and Anton Ego loves it!
Remy learns you don’t have to pretend. All you have to do is do it yourself.
My movie is Despickeble me. It is about a man named Gru who wants to be eivil warlord of the world. But the problem is he is very old and evrybody thinks his ideas are bad. So nobody will give him the money. So he has to defeat the young evil villans too. He makes up a evil plan that involves three girls so he adopts three little girls then the girls turn Gru from a evil villan to the nicest man you've ever met.SEE THIS MOVIE!

ReplyDeleteThis selection is about a Panda named Po who sells noddles in Ancient China with his father. Although Po sells noodles, he always dreams about Kung Fu and someday becoming like his superheroes the Furious Five.
Although, he is not the only one who has high hopes. The Jade Palace, where the Furious Five train,has it's own problems. The Great Master Oogwe had sensed that the dreaded warrior Tai Lung would return to take his revenge. The people of the Jade Palace held a tournament to see which of the Furious Five was worthy of the title Dragon Warrior, and the one able to defeat Tai Lung. Po was dying to see this. He left the noodle shop and went up the hundreds of stairs to see the tournament, yet the doors closed on him. He used fireworks to get his way in at the closing announcements, and landed in the middle of the stadium. He woke up to a suprise, Oogwe had one long, fingernail pointed at him. Not to point out, but Po was a little on the flabby side. In other words, he was expected to be the greatest warrior of all time and he couldn't even see his toes! He was thought a disgrace by Master Shifu, a red panda. He never quit until he realised he was meant to beat Tai Lung, who had escaped from prison. It was hard, but he decided that he might as well be better off training than going back to selling noodles. Po not only loves Kung Fu, but he loves food. He was trained by food set with an obstacle, such as sit ups for dumplings. Did I happen to mention that he was being trained by Master Shifu, for Master Oogwe had died.
The Five, Viper, Mantis, Monkey, Tigress, and Crane, had gone off to battle with Tai Lung and lost horribly. The trained Po was thought to have been trained enough and was to learn the secret of the Dragon Scroll. It was revealed to him. It was blank! After hours when everyone was walking away, Po had realised the secret. The scroll was blank, yet it had reflective paper like a mirror. You are the secret ingredient! He is soon found in battle with Tai Lung. After a while, he completely dissolved Tai Lung with the Wooshi finger hold, and is thought a Master everywhere.
The movie I got is The Guardians of Ga'hool. The main characters are: an owlet that I don't know the name of,his bother who turns evil, an elf owlet that I do't know the name of (I really don't know the names of any of the owls),a grey barn owl, and a little owl named digger. the owls tryed to save all the other owls from an owl who wanted to enslave all other owls. All this happend at the place where all the good owls lived and where all all the evil ones did. The main characters want to do this because, well, who wants to be enslaved?
ReplyDeleteThe book that I’m summarizing is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It is about a kid named Charlie Bucket. He lives with his mom, dad, two grandpas and two grandmas. His family is very poor. When he found money on the ground, he bought a chocolate bar. He found a golden ticket to get in to the great Willy Wonka factory. He and 4 other people get to go in. Wonka was testing them to see who would be the nicest to take care of the factory for him.

ReplyDeleteWhen Dodgers star player Tommy Santorelli gets hit by a baseball in the head he goes back in time to when he was a 7th grader. Tommy soon becomes the star of the local sandlot team. Then he finds out that the sandlot is going to be turned into condos and that the only way to save it is to beat the realtor’s baseball team in the tournament. The day before the game the realtor visits Tommy’s house and asks Tommy to play for his team and his mom thinks it is the best thing for him so she says yes. Then at the game he takes of his jersey goes back to playing for the sandlot team makes the game winning catch and the Sandlot is saved.

Buddy was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa's sack and ended up at the North Pole at Santa's factory. Later when Buddy is an adult who happened to be raised by elves, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his real father,Walter Hobbs. Hobbs, on Santa's naughty list for being a heartless person, had no idea that Buddy was even born. Buddy, meanwhile, experiences New York City in elf perspective. When Walter's relationship with Buddy interferes with his job, he is forced to reevaluate his priorities.

Hiccup is a son of a big buff viking, whom attacks dragons and live in the past. In fact, their whole entire village are dragon slayers. One night, Hiccup's village is attacked by dragons all different kinds. Hiccup goes out and hits a Night Fury, a dragon that no viking has ever killed because it never shows itself. He finds the the dragon and since Hiccup doesn't have the guts to attack a dragon like his father, he befriends the Night Fury instead and names it Toothless.
